Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

OK have a engine question for you LS Tuners:

Went for another test drive everything was great and the only thing that was different is I hooked the alternator up to the battery, volts showed to be close to 15 which I thought was high but the truck ran fine. Drove it about 4 miles, parked it in the driveway to show to my neighbor. Started it about 15 min. later it ran for about 10 sec then sputtered and died. When I tried to restart it had a knocking sound so I pushed it back into the shop.

I was not in the mood so I let it sit a day and turned the motor over without power to the ECM, had oil pressure, turned over just fine, no noises. Hooked everything back up, she turns over great no noises but will not start, does not even attempt to fire.

I have a pressure gauge on the fuel line so I have fuel.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What fuel pressure are you getting at the rail?

Thanks,
I would recommend buying HPTuners Pro (or EFIlive). It costs more money, but it gives you the tools to work on your tune.

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

Ok found the problem, I strapped the fuse box to the inner fender for the first time since I had the hood on. I didn't put the cover on the fuse box so the strap went across the ignition relay and all the vibration wiggled it loose. Removed strap pushed ignition relay back in and she fired right up.

Switching over to Hydroboost, other set up was just too soft!

Took a long test drive today, man this thing needs a windshield

Brakes work much better with hydroboost.

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

I've got a paint question for you, I will be sending the truck parts out for blasting soon. Should I also send the new panels and have the coating removed?

I have read how great this stuff is and, how it sucks! My feeling are get it all back to metal so the paint is on the same base for the entire truck.

Thanks,

Well I am not a professional painter but I have a friend that is and he helped me with what paint and primers to use and so on. He told me to scuff it and primer it. If you don't primer it the black will change the color a bit. That is if you are using a gray primer or light colored primer. And your build is looking good.

I like that color. Kinda reminds me of the one Ronnie "198plus" had on his old truck.
