So I had hoped not to have to put exterior rear view mirrors on my '54, however, The law says,"

". So I saw these on the "Southern" truck and thought they looked nice.

I also thought, sense the factory mirrors won't be an option, what about '54 Bel Air mirrors like these:
They are similar in price($100 or so), so that's not the issue. Am I doing my truck a disgrace by putting car parts on it's exterior? I'm trying to keep with the "Factory GM Parts" theme, but over all looks over ride that in this case. How many people will notice the "Bel Air" mirrors other than a GM buff? Thanks, Daniel U

I have had a couple trucks of that body style and think those mirror's would look great on there. It is your truck and your taste so why worry what other people think. We all have our own taste, hell you might even start a trend by putting those on.

Yeah, I started this project out as a "purist" and wanted to restore it to OEM factory specs. However, things have changed, as have my taste over the years, and I want to be sure I'm happy with the choice I make. I have made many changes to my Harley Davidson (Heritage Softail) that have ran up over $3k and now I'm stripping a bunch of those parts back off and going for a "cleaner" more nostalgic look. I'm just trying to visualize the look of the car mirror on the truck.

The round ones look nice. I was also thinking about rectangulars from a 73+, but for a round-fendered truck, I would probably opt for the round mirrors.

From the looks of where I'll have to mount them on the door, the Bel Air mirrors won't work(to curved). So the swan style mirrors will have to do.

That was the original plan(peeps). I want something that looks some what factory. The OEM mirrors are just too plain and bulky though. The peeps are too "custom". And I understand that I will have a custom truck when I'm finished, I just don't want anything too much.

tho for my '55.I have the round peep ,and don't really like them..

Also check into "sport" mirrors from a 67-72. There rectangular but have a wide flat base. Also make sure you get the backing plates so your not just relying on the sheet metal to hold the screws.

I agree with Fred. There are so many round parts and curved surfaces on these trucks, the rectangle ones would look out of place. Those Belair ones would look good. Can you modify the base to fit?
