Re: LS factory cruise control hook up

Everything on your diagram looks to be right. Have you tested it with the diode installed? The only thing that looks odd on your diagram, and I don't think it would affect anything, is your brake lights appear to be wired on a key on hot wire rather than a constant hot. I assume you are using an aftermarket harness and wired it this way?

thats actually just me trying to simplify the schematic.

they are in fact wired to the proper fused brake light position and i get brake lights with key off too.

sorry about the confusion.

so if everything is wired correctly then i can only assume its the box itself?

i call the local LKQ and they didnt have any 99-02 silverados available so ill keep calling around tomorrow.

does the yard local to you have one readily available?

There are 6 pick a part type yards with in a half hour of me, and they almost always have some 99-02 trucks in them and the cruise modules are almost never taken off, so I'm pretty confident I could find one.

Cool, glad you got it going! (I had to mod your original quote so it wouldn't scream at everybody again.... )

IIRC he ended up having LED brake lights installed by the previous owner. What's your issue, I see you've posted on several cruise threads?

I can't get cruise lockout to toggle to "NO". Everything else checks good. I think its because of my LED tail lights. Will check it out tomorrow.

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up

I am in the process of designing and building a tester module for this model of cruise control module (CCM) as I have replaced it twice on my 92 Buick Roadmaster without success. The only thing I am not sure about is how to simulate the input from the PCM (VSS) that goes into Terminal K (green wire) of the CCM. I know that it is a 5-volt signal, but that is all.

I found a GM video on YouTube regarding this CCM on a 91-93 Buick Roadmaster. It stated that the Speed Sensor Module (SSM) on the driveshaft produces an AC voltage of anywhere from 2-100 VAC. This signal is fed into the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) which in turn feeds Terminal K on the CCM. But the video confused me on one point in that it stated that the voltage of that wire is actually a ratio of 1.1 volts per 1 mph.

Here is the link to that video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5SEy9GwQIw

Advice and suggestions are most welcomed. Thanks!

How's aboot an actual speed sensor from jags that run? You could hook it up to a drill motor or something to spin it.

That actually sounds like it would be more complex than just rigging up some kind of a signal simulator. If you look at the VSS speed sensor module, there are all kinds of wires running in and out of it. I don't know that one could easily jury-rig up a circuit through it and get it to work properly. All I need is something that will provide a valid speed signal to terminal K so that I can press the Set button and engage the cruise control module. Then I can vary the speed signal up and down to see that the stepper motor is indeed trying to make adjustments.

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up

I dont think either way is going to work. These things are very sensitive so just wiring it up and not being on a vehicle, it will likely not do anything. You cant even get one to work on a car that is on jack stands because as soon as it sets, its already going faster than the set speed and will instantly kick back off. As easy as these things are to put on a car, that's going to be your best tester.

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up

Just to be clear, im talking about a sensor like this.

Then, if you needed to, it would be super easy to wire it to a gm DRAC module and the module would put out the proper VSS signal.

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up

I was able to wire a regular bulb into my 3rd brake light system to verify that the LED tail lights were causing the problem, the CC works perfect now. I'm going to try one of the LED flashers and see it that will work before I wire in another relay, I already have a enough relays as it is under the dash.......

Sorry but I have not been able to find any parts to put any together latley. The supply of 30 plus year old vehicles in the junk yards is drying up.

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up

LS1Nova71, I am in the middle of hooking up DBW cruise I have the HND-2 switch from Dakota Digital and also have LED tail lights.
The issue I am having at the moment is the orange light on the switch stays lit (on) all the time. If you press off it wil go out for a split second then back on, I have the pic below hope this helps on my issue.

When I press the brake pedal the relay clicks but nothing turns the light off on the switch.

Thanks
Mark

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up

I'm not super familiar with that switch, but do you have the instructions for it? Also, it appears you have both terminals on the normally closed side of the brake switch hooked to the same wire?

Re: LS factory cruise control hook up

Are you referring to the "hot" side of switch?
If so,that was the way the switch was wired for the tail lights.
The orange (power wire from panel) went to one terminal then jumpered to the other. It did look weird never really looked more into it. Below I have attached what info I have from Dakota Digital The switch wiring and then they sent me the led wiring and it has me even more confused. No instructions though, they assume you are using the switch with the DD cruise unit.

LS1Nova72, are you still selling the column levers with cruise? I tried to send a private message, but it looks like your inbox is full.
