Still been too busy/lazy to swap out motors, so I've been beating around on the hurt one.

I set up a local hot-rod cruise every week, and last night I got a couple of nice kills via some shennanigans on the cruise.

First up is my buddy's 996 911 Turbo. It's got a tune and exhaust and some other goodies and has been converted to RWD.

Got him from a 40-120 roll, and was reeling him in from a dig until my tires went up in smoke.

Next up was another buddy's 2013 SRT-10 Viper.

We went from a 50 mph roll, and from a dig, and I walked him pretty hard during both. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy how the blazer is running...even on 3 hurt holes

Sadly I was by myself, and they were impromptu races...so no vid

However, there were about 10 witnesses behind us, lol.

Yes, it can control either a stepper IAC, or a PWM IAC. I'm using the factory stepper IAC with my setup, and yes, it is helpful even without A/C.

Everything you've never wanted to know about MS3.

The bulkhead connectors came from the local Cat dealer.

Thanks. Got a new custom turbo cam from Tick Performance waiting to go into the new engine. What's in there now is "ok", but i wanted a cam matched to my setup.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Hey so how did that Heidt pressure regulator valve work out? I just ordered one after reading that the hydroboost likes 3.5gpm/1500psi and the Mustang rack likes less than 2gpm/800psi. Hmmm, and how did you find out about this valve? I've been searching for days for an answer to this problem until I stumbled upon some obscure write up someone did and then as soon as I saw a picture of the valve and then I remembered seeing it in your build. But nobody seemed to have an answer to this problem, not the place I got the booster from, the company that made the rack, companies I called about pumps, even Heidt said they wern't aware of using it to regulate the pressure after the hydroboost and before the rack. How did you dial it in? Just play with it until things seem to work best? Did you use a high output pump? My understanding is that GM type II pumps put out somewhere around 2.5gpm/1000-1200psi which I'm told is kinda low for the hydroboost. Anyway this seems to be this unknown magic solution to this problem.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

[QUOTE=Wasted Income;6044987]Well as they say, the devil is in the details. I had more time in coming up with radiator and heater hoses that will work, than I did in the whole hot-side...

Got the downpipe fabbed up. Turbo outlet is 5", and I reduced to 4" right off the flange. I used a band clamp instead of welding the last piece for several reasons. First off, I'm not sure if I want it to exit there for sure, long-term. Secondly, it may be way too loud and require a muffler (which is ultimately did....lol). Lastly, any rework is one less thing to cut apart.

Had to get creative on the lower radiator hose, since the crossover and merge are fighting for real estate with the hose.
I ended up cutting the lower radiator neck back, and re-welding it...reducing it from 1.75" to 1.5", with a tight bend coming out to clear the exhaust. A nice benefit is that both end of the radiator hose are now 1.5" instead of being staggered. I went with the stainless steel flex hose for the bulk of the lower hose, to reduce the chance of damage or melting from heat.

Couldn't really go above the frame, or below the frame with the turbo oil drain...so I went through it with a -12 AN bulkhead fitting.

Heater hoses were a bit of a challenge as well, since the pass right between the downpipe and the manifold. The waterpump outlet is also very tight to the merge, which required molded hoses with 90s on them. I used a reflective heat wrap that is similar to what we use at work on our aftertreatment modules to shield fuel lines and such from excessive heat.

Lastly here's a quick vid showing one of the coolest features of the Megasquirt. Logging and tuning on my phone, via Bluetooth. Took a little vid while I was burping the cooling system.

Rumor has it that the Thunderbird PS rack is more tolerant of higher pump output pressure than the old Mustang II racks. I decided to risk it.

No Fcks Given.

Hmmm, mine is a Flaming River rack manufactured by them, so no actual Ford parts in it, I don't think. However Flaming River told me it likes the same sort of pressure levels that the Ford rack does. I've just read that with pressure in the middle it's not very good hydroboost and twitchy steering. Higher pressures fix brakes but make the steering twitchier, and lesser pressure fixes steering and makes brakes less boosted.

Anyway, sounds to me like something that would be a good thing to use.
