I'm not sure, she's got rust in alot of spot's. So I'm going with the ratrod and my wife love's the flat black and she grew up in it it 25 year's ago. She is gutted right now on the inside. will see. She does have a band new 350, 202 fuelie, header , powerglide, so the truck is happy. I'll give updates.

Vectorit, As much as I love the 71 and 72 Suburbans, I have to admit that your 68' is my favorite suburban on this board.

Coming from the "Most interesting man in the world", I take that as quite the compliment.

Cool Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Here's mine. Long story bout this one. Basically it starts with me trying to buy a 68 Camaro off Ebay. Nothing special, 292-6cyl car that just seemed like a neet project. Turned out to be a wild goose chase but I ended up in contact with one of the other bidders about a Suburban he was selling. It was a 72 with all the options. Sounded to good to be true but when the pictures arrived I was speechless. Well long story short, agreed that the price was reasonable and drove 500 miles to Hobbs NM to make the purchase. Apparently the guy wasn't sure how serious I was so he ended up taking a local offer for the truck before I arrived. Needless to say I was a bit miffed but tried to make the best of the "Boys weekend with my 7yr Old Son. Said a few words and drove off to Carlsbad to check out the Cavern. The guy knew I was staying in town and apparently felt bad about the mixup. Before we headed back to Dallas he called me up and said he'd like to offer me another Suburban he had. It was not a 72 but a 68 and didn't have the same options but was in good shape so he said. Something he was not intending to sell but he'd part with it for the right price seeing I drove all the way from Dallas. I expected to see a basket case of end up out more than the 5k brought and go home with my rear in hand, not to mention the tongue lashing my wife would give me for even bringing another project home.

Again.. long story short, I was pleasantly suprised at what he showed me and ended up getting a much better deal than I could have hoped for. I ended up giving him $800 for the truck plus a swap for a $1000 dollar Stepside 4x4 I was trying to unload at the time. He even agreed to deliver it to Dallas for me since he had family in the general area.

The truck arrived a few weeks later with loads of parts in boxes (at some point he had begun to take things apart and got sidetracked. Several boxes of nuts and bolts for interior pieces. A box of bolts and brackets for the engine., Grill and Radiator core were in the back. Nothing major but all that I had worried about was slowly being eased as I went through box after box and realized how complete this truck really was and how great a shape it was really in under that thick coat of NM read dirt. Attached are some pictures shortly after it was delivered and my son and I scrubbed and vacumed up all that red dust before we put it into our garage.

Specs:
68 Chevy Suburban 1/2 Ton CST Custom Package.
Medium Blue Metallic with White Roof.
396 Big Block, with Turbo 400 Transmission.
373 Posi Rear End, Trailering Kit and Heavy Duty Rear Springs.
Dealer added under dash Air Conditioning
Factory Vacume Operated Cruise Control
Third Seat Option
Chrome Front and Rear Bumper with the front Bumperettes
Dealer Added GM Script Vanity Mirrors on the Sun Visors, Auxilary Gas Tank and Roof Rack.
The truck even has the bias ply spare in the tire well with the jack and instruction packet rolled up in a plastic pouch. Same thing in the glove box with the owners manual showing maintanence records up to 46k still in the plastic sleeve with the rear decklid key stuck to the back page.

Through some quick research I found out I'm the third registered owner and have verified that the mileage is accurate at less than 65k. When I contacted the origional owner he was very happy to hear someone was using his truck for something better than hauling farm wagons. He offered me some extra parts he had apparently forgotten about when he sold it in to the second owner if i was interested in retrieving them. I was tickeled to find what he had was a second set of hubcaps (full cover style) still in the obem packaging and the 3rd seat in the dealer plastic with a set of GM Embossed rubber floor mats in body color and a rear cargo mat.

Each time I dig into something with this truck I'm just stunned at the condition its in. Unfortunately I've had to put it in storage myself at least until I can clear some other projects off my plate and convince the wife that I'm serious about completing this one and keeping it. Hopefully I'll re-open the cacoon and finish it before I retire.

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Just a few more photos of the truck. Granted its no museum piece but seriously, I've never owned one of these trucks in this good condition and the thing was freaking used on a farm. I can close the doors with the lightest push. If it didn't latch fully just push it a little and it'll grab shut. No opening and slamming the thing. the windows even have perfect felt still. I can crank them up and down like they were brand new, same thing for the floor vents etc.

Just totally amazes me and at the same time scares the crap out of me intimidation wise. Really want to do this one up right. I'm trying to get everything off my plate before beginning.
