New Project: 68 GMC Suburban

I have recently acquired a 68 GMC Suburban, and will very soon be starting on the rebuild. I'm welcoming advice and tips from anyone who has done this before! Anything I should expect/look out for? It's mechanically sound, 4WD works. The body is exceptionally solid. A few rust spots and dents, here and there, but I already have the sheet metal to replace it. I do need to replace the LH "Barn Door". The interior is completely thrashed/gutted. No front seat, no heater control module, no stereo, missing some door panels, no 3rd row seat, no head-liner.

Also, does anyone know of any good sites for replacement parts? Interior, exterior, doors, etc.

Considering a 454 swap. Anyone know where to find deals on engines?

Re: New Project: 68 GMC Suburban

It seems that I'm mildly retarded, and still need to distinguish between my left and right... It's the Right-Hand "Barn Door" that needs replacing...

Awesome looking project! I am very eager to see more about it. I get most of my parts from the parts board here, The Truck Shop, Classic Parts, and GMC Pauls has some good stuff too. There are alot of other places as well that are good, those are just the places that I use.

Two door model - nice.

Your back door could be fixed by a good old school body man.

You ought to be able to use a old Blazer seat for the 3rd row seats - I would imagine.

I don't remember many having the third row seats, especially with the 2 door model.

I would just build a box back there for speakers and the spare tire and tools like I did for my panel truck 30 years ago.

Re: New Project: 68 GMC Suburban

well I do know that there were only 1043 4WD Suburbans made in 68
and I not sure if that number includes GMC and Chevy

These were all 3 doors from 67-72.

That back door may be worth saving if there is no rust problems. Nice rig, i like it. Does that have shoulder belts also? I think we need a few more pics.
