Just picked up a 68 Suburban!

Picked up another project, 68 Suburban C-10. Body is perfect and COMPLETELY rust free, I just couldn't pass up on it.

more pics to come...

Re: Just picked up a 68 Suburban!

I know it's been a while since I've updated this. Truck has been in the body shop for almost 6 months now, progress is being made slowly, but it's progress.

here she sits after a few weeks into the body work

I've always wanted a gas door on one of these so I had one welded in from a 70's era van

And a more recent update from this month, here she is re-primed, in the final stages of prep before paint.

Interior is all primed out now

She should be ready to spray in the next few weeks, then I have the rigorous task of putting it all back together. Paint scheme will be very similar to my Silver 25th Anniversary Corvette

Re: Just picked up a 68 Suburban!

I've got all the glass back in that I have the new rubbers for, I was missing the fixed rear vent window rubbers so the rear glass will be going in as soon as that arrives. I put the grill trim and lights back on as well, and started installing the door seals. She's making progress little by little.

Once the glass is all installed it's off to the tint shop, I've got a new holley double pumper carb and fuel pump to install, and then I'll be on the hunt for some wheels.

Re: Just picked up a 68 Suburban!

haven't had a whole lot of time to do much work but here's a little progress...

new air cleaner

cut a hole in the license plate bracket for the hidden hitch

GM flip down plate holder came in

will sit something like this once it's installed

installed the diamond plate rear cargo door panels that came with the truck. Will get speakers installed soon and have them upholstered to match the truck.

got more of the dash put back in, heater controls, key bezel, glovebox door, radio, and trailer brake controller. The gauge bezel won't fit over the monte carlo steering column that was installed by the PO so that will go next.

restored the original gauge cluster with a new bezel, new glass, and painted the needles white

got the lights wired up and working again

found a local truck parts hoarder in town and picked up the correct 67-72 steering column

same guy also had the hard to find rear door panels that I was missing so I scored those and the cargo area side panels as well.

I like the line you chose on the two-tone. I will keep it in mind when deciding how to paint mine....someday...

You can use the stock control arms with new spindles, brakes, brake lines, master cylinder, proportioning valve, AND new Balljoints and tie rod ends. The reason why I did not go that route is, the parts I acquired were still assembled and removing the spindle from a control arm is a pain in the butt when it's not mounted to the vehicle. And pressing new balljoints would require the lower arms to be removed anyways...so I just swapped it as one piece.
