2010 Silverado 2500HD Fuel Economy

I was wondering what everyone else is getting for average MPG on the Vortec 6.0 liter Stock.
I am getting 11.3-11.5 MPG from the computer.
I just refilled the tank and reset the OD to see what this tank gets me.

The truck is brand new with 500 miles on it. I have filled it up twice so far.
I need it to pull a 7000 lb tag a long travel trailer, so I went with the 2500HD.

Is this MPG normal? I guess I must have gas pump shock.... not used to this low MPG... My ole 87 chevy short bed had great milage even with 98,000 on it.

Any advice on increasing MPG without decreasing performance?

I think that is about normal for the 6.0. My brother had 1 for work and on the highway he would get about 13-14mpg. That's why I went with the diesel.

+1. 16 mpg around town and 18-20 mpg on the highway. With no chips. It should improve a couple of mpgs when I decide to throw a chip on there.

My friend has a 2500HD and used to get 9-10 avarage between hiway and city. Therw on cold air and bully dog chip. Now gets about 14. He has small lift and bigger tires too.

Re: 2010 Silverado 2500HD Fuel Economy

I know this is an old post, but would like opinions. I have an 09 2500hd with a 6.0. I regularly see 18 mpg highway the worst has been 14, once saw 21, depends on my right foot, and the wind, but I usually drive 70. I would like to have the dealership reflash the computer for better shifting, but with all the stories out there about poor mileage I'm reluctant to have them change anything. Are there others out there getting good milage and i shouldn't worry. Or shoud I leave it alone.

Hmmmm, if you are getting that good of mileage, I'd be reluctant to change anything. However, if you decide to, have someone do a custom tune for your vehicle. I had BlackBear Performance do a chip for mine and so far it's been good. I didn't see huge mileage gains, but probably an honest 1.5-2 mpg difference from stock. I'll see an average of 15 on the highway at 70-75. Not the greatest, but better than 12-13 I guess. Power and performance were improved as well.
