Vintage / Old Air mounting and firewall connection? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am getting ready to smooth my firewall. I am going to eventually install a Vintage Air or Old Air Heat Defrost Air system. Vintage Air says they use the stock heater mounting holes. Old Air is not specific. Also they do not show any installed photos of where the heater and ac hose connections route through the fire wall.

I looked at some of the photos here and could not find any photos that show the firewall side of the installation.

Does anyone have any photos or installation info they can share? I do not want to waste time welding and grinding up holes just to redrill them. Also could I weld in studs facing the inside in the heater bolt locations to mount the unit? Thanks Patrick

I have an Old Air system in my 58. The unit does mount in the stock location using an adapter plate. The AC/Heater lines run thought the fire wall and does not use a bulk head to run the lines inside. My truck is not here right now to take any photos. When it's back I will post a few.

I used an aluminum 4 hole bulkhead piece to run my through the firewall. Not a great picture. If you need better let me know.

Not to highjack the tread but who did you use for your LT1 wiring harness? I have a 95 vette LT1 in my 48 truck and I am undecided whether I want to buy a new harness or have mine reworked.

I'll get you some pictures this evening when i get off work. I installed old air's set up in my 71 yesterday.

See if these help; I installed old airs product yesterday. I elected to keep my stock evaporator core but everything else is new. It's hard to see but I have the condensor electric fans as well and these do help as the r134 tends to run a higher head pressure.

Thanks, those are great photos. Daniel, on the interior shot I assume the two blue caps are on the heater core so that can be run just about anywhere. Also, I had forgot that I was also trying to see if I could lower the battery box a little too, so the shots with the batterys really help.
