Check engine light on? Also is it starting in first and shifting to second and that's all or is it starting in second?

Re: 4l60 prob

motor and trans per wrecking yard had 77000 miles so now prob about 83000.
No check engine light, i will check codes monday after work when i can bring my scanner home. Starts in first shifts to second then neutral. Engagement into gear firm 1-2 shift is firm no flare. Heck i could burn the tires first and second. The weird part is have drive it easy and all the shifts have been firm. never felt that any shifts had any flares. I remember in the late 90s the first gen 4l60 would either stay in first? or maybe had 1-2 shift when trans lost bat + power.

Re: 4l60 prob

Im not a trans guy, but if its going into neutral it sounds like an internal transmission problem, not a wiring or PCM problem. I believe if the trans has no power it will default to only second.
