Anyone ever run a 6L90E?

Anyone done it? They seem cheap, as low as $1800 on eBay, and I'm sure I paid more than that for my 4L80E which is weaker and has fewer gears!

I just have no idea about how to control it or if it fits in the tunnel, all of the little details. So I'm curious to hear from anyone who's running one.

Not for my blue truck, but for my next project.

I am also really curious as to how to control it. In one car I have an LS3 that I think the factory PCM could be of help, but in the older cars they'd be totally standalone.

6L80/6L90 have their own computer within the transmission (TCM). I had LS3/6L80 in my gold 68 truck and it worked well. To run it in a non EFI motor you would need a standalone computer and I think they are quite expensive. Where people run into problem with these is when they mix and match motor and transmission (their are differences within the years). I personally would only run the setup if I knew that motor and tranny came from the same vehicle. I had one from a 2013 Camaro SS and i performed wonderfully, .

I'm trying to stick one behind a ZZ502 that I will run some kind of EFI on. If there was an EFI setup that offered throttle body injector control AND gm transmission control, that'd be perfect.

As it is, though, it'll likely need to be standalone. And I did find one controller but it's $900 as you expected, and I have no idea how well it works:

Pretty funny when you consider the trans is still running itself, this just "pretends" to be the engine ECM master I guess. They said it needs a TPS and TACH and that's it.

Might be cheaper and better off to go with a built TH400 and a Gearvendor overdrive...

I bet it'd be cheaper to make a controller out of an LS3 engine computer somehow.

The standalone computer is around $800. I just have no idea how well it works, whether it's using the factory shift programming, all of that. I assume it's basically pretending to be the "car CAN BUS environment" and sends it the RPM and TPS and all of the other data that it'd normally be getting from the engine computer.
