Well I think in the kit it has a half-inch sensor but there are three total sensors in the bag and I haven't opened the bag yet. Remember I was hoping the canbus would give me all the info. I will check it out tonight. I would like to put it next to the original sensor.

It's 1/8" pipe thread for the oil pressure sensor. I used the blockoff plate listed above and just drilled and threaded it. It mounts just above the oil filter. I didn't have enough room to T into where the factory sensor is mounted.

Well I will look into it as I have the oil cooler plumbed in already. I do remember a plug on the side of the oil cooler line block. I will check it out maybe I can use it with the correct bushing.
Also I wonder what the 3 sensors are that the kit came with.

I used one of them for the H20 temp sender in the block, but you can use them for either of the senders.

The motor had high capacity towing package I guess. It had the lines already. So it was 40$ for the little block next to the oil filter or 30$ for the aluminum 2 path oil cooler on eBay and I had the an fittings and line. So I decided to keep it. It adds 1-1/2 quarts of oil also.

I was planning on putting mine in with the radiator like the factory does. Mainly because I toyed with the idea of separate coolers for oil water and trans, but I was told by more than a few high performance radiator shops that gm designed the motor and trans to run with a constant temp. Meaning, keeping them too cold would cause extra wear. Seems to kind of make since. But I wasn't sure if that was bs or not. I do plan on one radiator to keep my engine compartment clean as possible.

That is funny since the factory oil cooler is in front of the radiator. Or at least from what I have seen it is!
Not sure how the engine oil temp and trans oil temp need to be equal since they don't really come in contact to each other. Well maybe the bell housing which doesn't have oil in it.
Am I off on this thinking?

Well the idea was since they are in the same radiator that because the tubes in the radiator would all be dissipated by the radiator fins. Some of the 6.0 radiators has all three in one unit. I have a friend with a Tahoe with the 6.0 with oil cooler his is all one unit for auto trans and water and engine oil. Personally I like the idea of one unit to save space. But yours on the front there looks beautiful, too bad all the other stuff is going to cover it up.

So I have a question. Do I really need the stock oil pressure sender? If I change it out what does the computer do if it doesn't read oil pressure?

The motor will read no oil pressure and go to shut down mode. Least that's on E38 pcm's will I'm am not sure about the older motors and pcm's. I never researched the older one. But since you have an e38 it won't start if that was disconnected.

I think the 96 or 98 F body's had an 1/8" sensor for water temp, might be able to go to your local and see if they also had an oil pressure switch of the same size. Then again though you might not have luck at a auto parts store. Here in Arizona it seems like you can get a job at an auto parts store and not know a piston return spring from a bag of dog crap. I usually just ask to go look myself if they seem confused.

I am honestly not sure. Most manufactures for these sending units will give you the parameters. Like BWD they usually give you the ranges. For example I wanted to use my original gauge for water temp but I didn't want a huge erection coming from my head using those auto meter adapter. So I found a water temp sensor from an 86 Monte Carlo ss it had 1/8 NPT / 3/8 NPT something like that I forget. and I turned it down on the lathe for 12mm to fit the head.

DD tells you not to use any other senders than their own, for what it worth.

Hart rod I was wondering what other vehicles had the same oil pressure sender that would have a 1/8" npt. So I wouldn't have to make up something metric.
So what I did was make a 3/8 x m16x1.5 nipple. Than used a 3/8" brass tee. 1 end I taped to the correct thread of the original stock sender. Then installed a 3/8x 1/8 bushing to the dd sender.
I will try and get it installed tonight. I will try and remember to take a few pictures.

That's pretty clever. But exactly what I would want to avoid. I was thinking of maybe tapping the oil cooler block so you don't have to have that big contraption. I did find out from my source that the dd canbus signal just reads a different signal, they must have not written the software, probably a simple update but would have to be written to read that signal rather than the sensor that they have provided. Here they have done several trucks and have used the sensor provided.

I agree with not wanting to use that contraption and I thought of a couple other ways to do it but want to try this first to make sure. I am hoping DD will be able to come up with a new update so I can take this off. I thought about tapping into the oil cooler but then the sensor would be in the front and I have to run the wires that way I would rather not do that. If this works I may just take a brass coupling and tap a eighth inch hole in the side of it that would make it considerably smaller.

Actually a straight would be better! A 90 makes it hard to work with and there's not a lot of room behind the motor. I may tap a coupling in the middle 1/8" pipe Thread. I will post a pic later today.
