How much can a '67-'72 Suburban 3/4ton tow?

Just tossing some ideas around for a tow vehicle for a large travel trailer. Was wondering what a 3/4t Sub could pull. I would like to know what the 2WD and the 4WD are capable of. So all you Sub guys, let's hear it!

Thanks,

Rod

Re: How much can a '67-'72 Suburban 3/4ton tow?

My '72 brochure lists what I suppose to be a Max Trailer weight @ 6,000 lbs and Max GCW @10,500. This was for the C20. It doesn't specifically list the K20.

I suspect with better brakes, tranny, engine that we seem to all aspire to that these numbers could be even higher. Especially, with weight distributing hitches, trailer brakes, etc.

A post was recently posted by igotachevyor2 (brocure i stumbled on) that is a good read for subs. It says it all better than i can..... I have a 72 3/4 ton sub...
I think with aux. tranny cooler, equalizer hitch on trailer, and good trailer brakes i would be good to go. it has about 131,000 miles on it and shifts about like new. one of the articles posted is dated aug. 1969, the other 1970. kent.

thinking it through a little,,,,also Quality 10 ply tires properly inflated. we have work trucks with firestone trans-force tires on, we load the snot out of them and they still run straight down the road. we have slow leaks some times from screws or nails stuck through tread, but rarely have blow outs. nothing would ruin a good camping trip quicker than a pretty tire with a weak sidewall grenading at 65 mph.

A Suburban that is set up to tow can pull anything that you can hook to a frame-mount ball hitch(pull behind).Anything too big will have a pintle hook. It`s up to the individual where within those limits you want to be.

24'
I think it is 5800 pounds or so.

You should definatley have load range E tires, tranny cooler and trailer brakes.
As mentioned above.....with the correct equipment you can pull what you want!!!

Re: How much can a '67-'72 Suburban 3/4ton tow?

I have a 72 3/4 ton with a 350 engine a cam headers and a turbo 400 trans with a trans cooler we pulled a 20 foot enclosed race trailer with a midget 4 wheeler rollaround tool box cabinets in front with a compressor generator and many spares. It pulled the trailer great at 70 on the interstate. It has a weight dist. hitch and trailer brakes and a sway controller. When I first got the trailer I did not have the sway control and the weight Dist. hitch and it needed it.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking a 20' Airstream would probably be better suited for my 1/2 T Suburban. You don't know where a nice one is do ya? .
