That mat isn't tan, it's bare rubber that has hasn't been cleaned!

Reproductions of the original mat are available and fit very well.

Well, you're half right. That mat has not been cleaned. Tan mats were indeed a thing. GMC only and I'm not quite sure for what years or what the deal was on getting a tan mat, but they did exist. Perhaps like the red seat trim on certain colored Chevy's for 62-65. ?

Not the best picture because I keep it covered but you can see the Tan floor mat and firewall pad in this picture in my 66.

Do you have an extra one, the tan floor mat? Either one or both?

I never knew that some GMC's had tan mats, thats pretty cool!

You could use SEM dye on a reproduction mat to get the correct color.

Could you look for the part number molded into the mat ? Should be to the rear of the mat just under the seat. Ive never seen a tan mat in that early of a GMC truck

I looked , I sure don't. I agree with the astronaut , try painting a new one. Finding a usable original will be tough

Re: 1964-1966 GMC OEM Tan rubber floor mat question

don't know if any of this will help anyone here or not, but I recently acquired a mat very close to the original in my '65..

they were previously discontinued due to a die form or something was broken but now back in production..

I saw something here and jumped on it right away..

my install notes and pictures starts in this thread at post #132..

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...oor+mat&page=6

not the factory install, I left out the tar business underneath, but came out great for my needs..

good luck!

Just checked the mat. On the passenger side is 2 424325. On the driver side is -6. I've owned this 62 for 5 years. The mat could be original to the truck or a previous owner could have installed it.

That's original to your 62. Parts book lists it as Part number 2424325 J series=1962 Silver Fawn. Is your truck a 3/4 ton ? I cannot find a 63 in the book that color . This is the earliest Ive heard of a fawn mat now. Still nothing for 63 but have for 64-66 although they didn't all come fawn, if they did the firewall pad would have been painted to match. Interesting stuff !

Yes, thanks very much for letting me know. Truck is a 3/4 ton custom cab with hydrovac power brakes and transmission brake. Firewall pad is also tan colored.
Upper dash is turquoise.

Re: 1964-1966 GMC OEM Tan rubber floor mat question

So Turquoise seat ? Exterior color ? Very cool combination ! So model 1815 is a standard vinyl interior and 1816 is the Deluxe or custom interior , GMC Data book does specify 1816 custom as having Nylon seat fabric rh sun visor lh arm rest with Fawn floor mat. The pattern being the fawn mat was part of the Custom option .I have two 62 GMCs out back both standard 1815 interiors with the black mats , GMC part number 2411785 GMC only part number and the other 3778943 which is a Chevrolet specific number but also used in GMC in black.

Yes, it has the turquoise and white nylon woven seat, RH sun visor, LH arm rest. Exterior is the greenish blue, whatever GMC called it.
Thanks for sharing your wealth of information!

In the 1965 Truck Engineering Features book on page 67 there is mention of a Fawn floor mat in an option package. It says it's only in RPO 0170 for Medium Duty trucks.
