Really nice work on the exhaust! The exhaust pipe to header connection looks like a ball seat? I've never seen that on a header before. Were the headers built with the connection or did you add it? Apologies if you covered and I missed it.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Yeah those are from heart throb exhaust. Hoping they seal well. Thought I'd give them a shot over traditional flanges. I welded them on my headers after trimming them down some. http://www.heartthrobexhaust.com/hea...ccessories.htm

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Hooker F-body LSX swap headers. I looked up the application for putting an LS in a 73 firebird and went with that. 1 3/4 primaries into 2.5 collectors. Thought about long tube but just not worth what little gain you get on a somewhat stock engine.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Yeah I had to notch my crossmember as well. I have a c notch about the same as your. The drive shaft only rubbed under hard acceleration and at first I thought it was wheels rubbing. Glad I got that figured before I had a major problem.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Long time no update.. lets remedy that...

6x9s in some custom cab corner closeout panels
decided to change the shifter from lokar to B&M quick silver. The classic look of the lokar is nice but its operation sucked ( in my opinion ) and I like the ratchet action of the B&M.
mocked up radiator ect
test fit hood
mock up ac and condensor ect
faux snakeskin material for interior, teakwood
custom mount for PCM
since this thing is staying in bare metal for the summer I painted the window channels to keep the rust at bay once the glass is in
painted the inner fenders and backside of grille surround

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Dunce should not be on the same page with your work, you are way better than that. The speed and quality is astounding. When I grow up I want to be just like you. Just read the whole tread, oh my! I'm headed down the same rabbit hole as you have done. Just hope Grace Slick is there and handing out those special pills. My project is 57 GMC Stroker 496 Gen 6 block, 6L90, Full C-4 on shockwaves. Not slammmed, 6-7 frnt bumper with +2-4 " rake. I need 17" rim to clear vett disk calappers. Still need so meat in the sidewall. with your permission i I'd like to PM you for further information. Thanks

Dunce, very nice work! I will also be stealing your x-member, seat belt, and battery access mods. I was wondering what radiator and fan? My heater hose ports are too close to the upper control arm. Did you have to modify to make them fit?

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Radiator is from Champion Radiators. They have a website and ebay store, also used their shroud but I didn't like how it fit all the way around the rad so I cut the sides off a bit and screwed it to the mounting flanges on the rad. Fan is a Flexalite Syclone 16 inch. It pulls 2500cfm and I've used it before on a camaro with 383. It doesn't even have a shroud and it keeps the camaro cool so I have some confidence in it. Not sure on the rad yet though - haven't tested it out of course.

To get around the heater hose problem I used some heater hose with molded in 90 degree bends at the water pump and just ran it forward and up/around the ac compressor. Probably cleaner ways to go like routing the stuff on the other side of the fender or I think you can pull those fittings out of the water pump and thread in actual 90 degree or AN fittings if you like. But I was after quick/simple and functional without looking shoddy. I may eventually use some gates heat shrink clamps on the hoses after I get through through whatever bugs await me during/after the first start.

Hey Dunce, what model number CPP booster/master did you use? Disc/disc? Any issues with mounting bracket? Thanks, Jim

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

I think I bought most everything from Tuckers, Classic Parts or Mar-k. If you need to know part specific source let me know.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Anyone know where to find the glass lock bead installer tool that has a roller on it? The cheapy I bought just scratches the chrome plating off of the bead.. has no roller. I've never seen one but a local body guy here has one but can't currently find it.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Update time..

Seat, headliner and door panels upholstered (haven't installed the panels yet though)
wiring pretty much done except for AC/heat
modified the stock LS1 harness from the 02 camaro and remove all the stuff I didn't need. That was a good time ; )
Fired up for the first time, first attempt it popped right off. Friggin amazing.
Short first test drive under my belt, gunna be a lot of fun
started working on the bed
Hoping to be done enough to get it to a car show in a couple weeks.
