Progess Report

I don't have pictures at this time of the mounting backets. I have the rear of the seat sitting up on top of the ledge then I had 2 pieces of 4" square tube cut to make the spacers for the outer support and 2 pieces of 3" square tubing cut for the inner support. I had the welding shop drill 1/2" holes in the center of each for the mounting bolt to slide through. By mounting on top of the shelf it allowed me to set the seat back as far as I wanted and create leg room for the passengers. I also painted the brackets to match the exterior of the truck. I will post some pics once I get them installed.

I finally made more progess on the Suburban. I have the all the glass in, the rear tailgate and hatch on, the front grill, hood and bumpers installed. Now to start focusing on the interior. I need to restore the tach dash and then install it so I can start the truck and move it around. The oil pressure line is open until I put the dash in. I have been busy doing lots of little things: all new window rubber, door gaskets, new windshield wiper motor etc... Now I need to get the headliner in so I can install the seats and console. I'm going to put the radio in the glove box since it won't fit in the console I am installing. As soon as I can pull it out side I will get some better pictures.

I put insulation on the roof in preparation to install the headliner. I decided to go with the FRB board that other members have used for a headliner. Seems like this will be the easiest and cheapest way to go and gives a nice clean look. I also pulled the speaker wires, installed an extra fuse panel and got the tach dash installed.

I got the dash installed and the head liner is in. I don't have pics of that yet. I got the drivers seat installed and the center console last night. Here a few pics where I pulled it out over the weekend.

I may put 2" drop springs on the front. I'm not going the air bag route. Too much work for me. I will tint the windows and I may put Cragar SS wheels on it. I bought a set new in the box but not sure I can justify the difference in cost to sell the wheels and tires I have and buy new tires. I want to drive it for awhile and take it to few car shows with my family.

I took some pictures of my progress. Have the headliner in, rear side panels, front seats, console, middle seats, rear speakers and radio. I had to back up and take out the right side "new" window regulator since it broke after rolling the window up and down 2 times. No worries though my parts guy is going to swap it out for another one. I also died the interior panels. It won't be long I will be driving it.

Lookin' Good! Hey, what's the headliner material? How'd you install?

I used the FRP material you can buy at a home improvement store. It's used on bathroom walls. It's about $30 a sheet and you will need 3 sheets. The trick is not to cut it to fit too tight. I think 57" wide is the correct width. I used a pair of side winder tin snips to cut mine vs. a skill saw. This made it easy to trim the edges as needed until I got it to fit. There are several posts on this forum with lots of details of how to do headliner. Good luck.

After working on it for 1 year, I was finally able to drive it yesterday. Drove it about 10 miles with no problems, no leaks...

The seats are out of a 2003 Yukon Denali. 6 way power with lumbar support. They feel good. I have all 3 rows. Looks like I will need to drop the gas tank to install the 3rd row bolts. The seats were heated also but I decided not to hook that part up.

I will get tags and insurance this week and venture off a little farther.

Installed 2" drop springs on the front today. Now I like how it sits. Taking it to have the front end aligned on Wednesday. Getting the windows tinted the 2nd week of December. Now to order a fuel tank sending unit and drop the tank to replace. I will also install the 3rd row seats when I have the tank out. The punch list is getting shorter and shorter....

Took the Suburban to get a front end alignment and developed a fuel leak back by the tank. I needed to drop the tank and put in a new sending unit and to install the 3rd row of seats. So dropping the tank became a priority. I dropped the both tanks and found an old fuel line was leaking. I installed a class 3 hitch while I was under there. Waiting for the fuel sending unit to come in so I can get back on the road.

After installing my radio in the glove box, I discovered the RF remote would not work the stereo through the glove box door. I called Alpine and they told me about a remote unit used for boats. It works within 100 feet and is not line of site. Found one on Amazon for $58. This thing is nice. Now I can control my radio from the steering wheel. Sweet!

Go back and hook up the heated seats. You and your passenger can thank me after a cold morning proves this was worth the trouble.
