Whats a fair price for this truck?

I think going to go look at this truck Saturday and was wondering you think I should give for it. Its a 1955 chevy 6400, 6 cylinder, 4 on the floor, 2 speed rear end. He said "everything works" we'll see. Its near san antonio so it shouldn't have much rust. This is the only picture i have. Thanks guys

OK well someone informed me that im am not supposed to post a for sale ad or anything like one because im not a paid supporter so im asking any moderators If im allowed to do this. Im not meaning to break any rules, I just thought that the purpose of this site was for people to help one another out and i guess we cant if we are not allowed to. If I am breaking rules just let me know and i will delete everything in my post or yall can delete this thread, no problems.

Re: Whats a fair price for this truck?

I bought a 1957 6400 grain truck about a year ago. It has original paint, solid as a rock.14 ft pto driven dump bed tires were shot. Runs good and also has the original oak grain bed. I bought it for $800 with a clear ,open title.
There are TONS of those old grain trucks around here and most of them were kept in a shed and used very little ,so they are in excellant shape.
Personally ,if the truck runs good I wouldn't give him more than $750.
I just bought mine for the cab and motor and scrapped the rest.-KB

Re: Whats a fair price for this truck?

you can post a WIW (what's it worth) ad if you are looking to buy something. They don't want WIW's if you are attempting to sell on the board and not a paid subscriber, you're ok with the post...

good luck on the purchase

I just looked at your build and i really like what you have done so far. If I get this truck im planning on doing something similar .Are you going to build a new flat bed for it? I think you should put twin turbos on it, looks like you have enough of room for them to fit and you could probably get away with not having a innercooler. By the way that engine looks like its supposed to be in there and it looks mean, keep up the good work.

Re: Whats a fair price for this truck?

I got my 2 ton '57 for $400 delivered 30 miles. Had a rod in the oil pan but all I wanted was the sheet metal. The one pictured looks to be in better shape so I'd pay a little more.

there is a detriot geniuss on just about every classic truck and diesel forum named GRIGG. he had his 2xturbod and i would do it the same way he did. with 2 353 manifolds and 2 small turbs. the 6v turbs are huge and stand straight up of the intake and i would need a 11" cowl hood to cover it.

yse it is going to have a custom flatbed that will be the deffinition pimp.

Re: Whats a fair price for this truck?

Well I went and looked at the truck today and I've decided not to get it. It was in worse shape then what i had been led to believe. He originally wanted $1000 for it but he said he would take $800 and after I look it over I was probably only willing to give him $200 at most. It hadn't ran in over a year a half, no brakes, only good piece of glass was the back glass, front ds leafs were broke, frame had been cut and extended about 14", I think the only thing that was straight was the grille. The main things i wanted were the body and the frame but they were both too far gone for my taste. I got some pictures. What do you think.

Re: Whats a fair price for this truck?

Were the doors in good shape? If they have no rust or dents those alone are worth some money.

Re: Whats a fair price for this truck?

The doors weren't too bad, I did see some rust in the inside at the bottoms and they did have dents where the mirrors mount, DS rubbed the fender, PS had a dent on the body line. But they were repairable.

Re: Whats a fair price for this truck?

low ball the hell out of him.

take it home and yank the front clip and any small trim peices.

toss the rest

find a clean 1/2-1t with a good straight cab and start there.

the fenders and grill are what sets the apart. the cab is the same as a light duty. supposedly the med duty truck were made with better/thicker steel than the lights.

Re: Whats a fair price for this truck?

It's gonna need a good waxing. Is there an engine somewhere under that hood? LOL I almost bought a '55 1.5 ton truck that was straight and driveable for $500. I didn't have any place to put it...

I really don't even want to mess with it for that price and the shape it was in. It was over an hour drive one way to go look at the truck and pulling a 32 foot gooseneck through san antone twice wont be fun. I rather wait for one to come up in better shape and a better price.

The cab looks a little beat but the dash looks pretty good. No major cuts from what I can tell.

Re: Whats a fair price for this truck?

I bought a 59 viking 40 for $200 last monyh, not running but original v8 truck. Ineeded the bellhousing for my 57 gmc factory v8 truck which I bought last year for $500. Did see a 55 1.5 ton sell recently for $3500 however. Wiw posts seem irrelevant as location and lack of shopping seem to dictate rediculous prices. Local cl lists 47-551st trucks for less than $1000repeatedely and posts on this site have people saying buy iy for similar trucks for stupid prices. Lack of knowlrdge and too much money in hand cause people to pay silly prices.

Good idea. I've made that mistake too many times - "this isn't quite what I wanted, but I can buy it today and I'm already here!" Ive been surprised really how many of these 50's trucks I've seen on craigslist for reasonable prices.
