Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
2 more shots of firewall..
The 2nd pic really gives a good idea how much it was recessed... To do this we cut strips 1 1/2" wide and were welded to the stock panel that was removed..test fit and modified as needed and finally all welded in.. If you look close..the stock lines of the (O.E) panel line up perfect. This gives it almost A factory look..

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
Pic #1 showing the inside of cab/floor (from factory they have a 2 piece floor pan) so I had to cut and modify these to fit the newly modified firewall..
Pic #2 the panel before cutting.. I did however weld these panels together to make them easier to put in and take out.

Nice! Like the way the stock lines of the firewall still line up....clean and simple. That Dodge is really solid.
Clean engine mounts too. |

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
It's actually a pretty decent truck...Has it's issues, the person who did the paint&body work was not to good, needs some TLC!
Mounts are universal LS mounts from Speedway with Poly bushings..

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
Moving on to the the Back!!!
Here are some shots of removing the old floor...it was diamond tread steel, F'N heavy! anyways, I found out the person who put this together didn't bother to square the bed nor did they mount the floor properly. They had the panel sitting on top of the stock angle (that is spot welded to bed sides) and held down with 1/4 " bolts! This will be fixed later!! At this point there was nothing holding the bed down! I simply removed the steel floor pan and the bed could be lifted right off...

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
I've never been a doge fan but found myself buying a 1 owner Indy Pace dodge truck as a daily ... and have been looking closer at these as an alternative shell for a build like yours. I love the early AD & F1's but a unique option IS the dodge & yours is coming right along.
Keep up the good work. |

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
Pic #1. Here is the back end of truck after The stock suspension was all removed. I was using the chain hoist to hold it up so I could get the (adjustable stanchion's) I use for setting up suspensions welded on.
Pic #2. quick shot of Stanchion...

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
Pic #1. Stanchion's welded to the frame.
For those of you who do not know what these are. They get welded to your frame and you can set the frame Etc. at your ride height. They can be fine tuned by adjusting the bolt (at the bottom that is welded to the large washer) These are Very handy! I have used them on every project I have done. This way with them being adjustable you can level out the frame fairly easy. Even if you happen to bump the frame it wont mess up your measurements. Pic #2. The 9" ford axle I picked up for the project.

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
In these 2 pics it is showing how I mockup my rear axles.
after setting the frame where I need it. I set the axle in place (mark center line, height for center of wheel etc) Then using 1x1 tube I tack them to the axle and frame to hold it in place. (this will ensure it does not move while getting the remaining suspension parts mocked up) The second pic shows a better view of the tube I used and also shows the starting stages of the 4 Bar setup... Mark...

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
Great idea on the adjustable stanchions. I used stanchions for the truck build though I wasn't smart enough to make them adjustable....used 4 bottle jacks and tack welded them on when level. Way better idea here.

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
Here are a few pics of the rear TRI-4bar going in..
Again I used a Horton builder series kit (also ava. in standard 4 bar) after we had thing's set to our liking it was all tacked in place. I use a 1 1/2"x 1/4" wall tube for the upper mount for the coilovers to mount to. This is welded to the frame and capped off as well.

Pic #1 the rear end and bars being painted.
Pic #2 the axle and unit in place.. (per the customer he did not want the rest of the frame re painted. It is black under the gunk!) so the dirt stayed as is...

Re: John's LS 49 Dodge
Horton Welder Series has some good products.
Looking good! Mark, did you set your rear end up where you wanted it to be at ride height then build to that? |
