70 burb on 99 3/4 chassis CL in NC

Thought this was pretty cool....especially since others have been asking about doing this!!

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1568813508.html

1970 Suburban. The 70 body is on a low milage, 99, 3/4 ton Chassis. 350 Vortec engine and 4L80E trans are like new. It has a Dakota digital dash, new bumpers, new grille, new paint and moldings, new tires and more. It does not have airconditioning. While I was building it, I planned to keep it, so no short cuts. New sheet metal panels were welded in along with new rocker panels. Call Gary at 910-276-1476 or contact me thru craigs list. I can e-mail more photos.

we'd all like to know more details about mods to the frame to make it fit that classic body. what drive configuration and chassis rating was the burb originally and what drive configuration is the '99 chassis?

Re: 70 burb on 99 3/4 chassis CL in NC

I have spoken to Gary a bit via email, I've posted the additional pictures he sent me below.

The chassis is a 1999 3/4 2wd. It's automatic, 5.7 liter. Has hydroboost. Was a government vehicle that had bad body damage to the rear quarter. Gary said the truck came off the road prior to April of '99, and he was told that it had 5,800 miles at the time. He didn't have the speedo to confirm so he was more comfortable estimating 58k on the chassis.

The interior is unfinished, no 2nd or 3rd row seats and the roof is insulated but no liner. As you can see, it is also a no option truck factory.

Dakota digital dash, a lot of new parts (bumpers, trim, paint, rockers, etc).

chassis and body mount pics:

you can see in the last two where the mounts are:
"I may have told you I had to shorten the frame. I think I took 5 inches out. The brackets on the frame were not even close, so I removed all of them by grinding away the welds. Then I reused them in the new locations and modified them outward or inward as needed to match the body.
Gary"

It is both running and was still for sale as of Friday.

to answer the above, I contacted him for more information because I was interested, but it's a bit more money than I can realistically put up right now, as much as I would like to.

So I figured I would pass the information on to you guys
