Re: Rubber or urethane trailing arm bushings?

Awesome! Thanks for the detailed instructions (now I see the links up top... like I said I'm dumb). I can tell you that chiseling w/ an air chisel does not work

Re: Rubber or urethane trailing arm bushings?

Yeah, the burn em out method stinks! Literally! I'm going to have to try the drill and pry method.
Thanks for the information on the pros and cons of rubber and poly, I'm going with poly, though.

I need to place an order for a variety of bits and pieces for frame/suspension re-assembly, currently torn on this one.
I went with a pair of NOS rubber bushings, but some medical set backs delayed installation and they are still hanging on the garage wall.

Re: Rubber or urethane trailing arm bushings?

I drilled out my old bushings on the weekend... 5 minutes tops! I am going to be ordering urethane bushings.

Thanks Lugz,
I'm sure you're right, in which case any sqeaking would come from the ends of the urethane bushing rubbing on the insides of the bracket.
It's just that I've seen some where the sleeve is longer than the width of the bar end so that it gets pinched stationary in the bracket when the bolt is torqued. In those the bushing rotates around the sleeve.
By "track arm" I meant the parts you're working on not panhard rod or bar, often called a track bar.
Thanks also for taking the time to post that blog.

I just ordered the Poly bushings... thanks for the tip to take the old ones out. Will update on the wear and noise...

X2! Adding heim-type joints would eliminate any bushing deflection while allowing the arms to smoothly rotate through the suspension travel without binding.

Here's a great thread on making your own tubular arms with adjustable heim joints.

Re: Rubber or urethane trailing arm bushings?

Thanks again Lugnutz! Just did mine... took about 10 mins and I didn't even break a sweat! Awesome! BTW, I did my panhard bar too. Worked just as good there

Re: Rubber or urethane trailing arm bushings?

Glad to know it worked as well for you as it did me. I have gotten great help from the forums, so it's good to know I can occasionally give back.

Brand and/or part numbers?

Oh if money was no prob... the rebuildable links. I like the spherical links. When in doubt look at a trophy truck doin 120 in desert. Then poly... poly break under severe punishment

Re: Rubber or urethane trailing arm bushings?

I know this is a bit old...but wanted to add to it for future poly inserts. I see some had a bit of a problem with the small poly piece going in properly. If you heat up the small piece and use a c clamp as picture shows it does go on with out any modifications. If it is not pressed on you get a total of 3 inches across and the arm it fits in is 2 3/4 inches. After it is pressed on I got the 2 3/4 to slide right in.

Re: Rubber or urethane trailing arm bushings?

Is this the same for body mounts as far as squeaking? I have the poly mounts for the cab and was fixing to install them until I read this...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...didn't mean to thread jack

Re: Rubber or urethane trailing arm bushings?

The body mount bushings are not articulating like the a arms and trailing arms. So you should be fine from squeaks. The only thing i have heard about the poly body mount bushings are that they don't compress like the rubber so sometimes there are things that don't quite line up after?

Great...I appreciate the information...My plan is to change the body mounts before doing any body work,,,I will also change the radiator core support mounts as well in hopes that it will all line up when done.
