Wouldn't you also have to modify the cab floor to clear the driveshaft if you do this.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Talk to a local driveline shop and explained exactly what I needed. It should be done by tomorrow. I'll post pictures of the fit.

Re: Porterbuilt extreme Dropmember and 2 piece drive shaft question???

Sorry for the late update, but the the shop didn't get the shaft completed until Monday afternoon. After I picked up and took it home I realized he had put an input shaft on for a 6L90 instead of a 4L60, arghhh!!! Ran back over there and he swapped it out in about 5 minutes. All said and done, $515 out the door for all new pieces including the carrier bearing and 3" diameter (more on that later). So I finally started fitting it but the angles were way off. I rechecked all my measurements and did some online research to find that the problem is with the height of the motor mounts. They are too tall and need to be 1" shorter. So I called and discussed this with Nate and he is supposed to build and send me some shorter ones next week. 1 step forward and 2 backwards, . And people wonder why we price our trucks so high when they ask. Here are a couple of pictures. As soon as I get the new motor mounts, I plan on doing a complete write up of how I did the measurements for all of this. Pics of course.....

Yeah, that stinks, but at least there's a solution in the works. Thanks, as always, for the updates! She's gonna be AWESOME!

Re: Porterbuilt extreme Dropmember and 2 piece drive shaft question???

Sorry I'm late here with my driveshaft pics. I just had my driveshaft rebuilt a month ago, but I decided I'm switching to a ls/4l60 setup too, so I'll have to pull it back out. I don't like my carrier bearing because the bolt heads are the lowest part off the truck underneath. Nate told me that there's a differentstyleso when i pull it out i wanna change.

Re: Porterbuilt extreme Dropmember and 2 piece drive shaft question???

Hart_Rod - wondering where you ended up with all this - Nate actually had to built taller motor mounts for my engine to get it off the rack up front - so I'm super interested where you ended up with measurements and the like as I have to tackle coming up with a two-piece driveshaft for the ol girl.

Shorter motor mounts seemed to help, but I'm still messing with it. I've been busy with the LS install in my truck. I hope to be back on this by Christmas.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the part number on the carrier bearing that you used?

Also Del has a bunch of pics. We use the later model carrier bearing that has the mounting holes perpindicular to the drive-shaft. You can cross this part number from Carquest: HB88107A it has the 1.378 bore for the shaft.

You will have to shim the carrier bearing up approx. 2"... when you get ready for install shoot me a text and I will call you to explain a couple details for an easy install.

Nate
