Nope. I ran a turbo with a much bigger exhaust side (1.58 A/R) on a 5.3L. It was a little bit slow to spool, but still a blast. That turbo was from a 15L 3406B Cat engine.

You are going to have traction issues. lol
LOL. Yeah, I don't think the tires that are on the truck are gonna last long. Eyeballing some 20" MT Drag Radials for when they're gone. I was able to hook the turbo 6.0 in the blue truck on a 275 MT/DR.

Aerospace Components

Welded bosses into the manifolds for EGT thermocouples.

Decent for an amateur I think.

Hot-side plumbing mostly done

Wastegate location

Wastegate and dump pipe to atmosphere

It's tight, but there is room for the AC compressor and fittings.

Also got a lot of other little things knocked out.
-New stainless braided oil cooler lines
-Made battery cables and ran them in the chassis
-Re-installed the rear bumper
-Cut and rolled the rear fenders for tire clearance.

I've got some more pics on the camera yet that I'll post one I get them on the PC.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Rolled it outside yesterday and took some pics...because everything looks better in the sun.

Installed a bulkhead connector for battery power to the cab for the megasquirt and relay block.

Was a tight fit, even with 295s with the stock fenders and inner structure. I don't really have a good photo of it after cutting and rolling, but I don't think I'll have any problem fitting a 305 or 315 out back now, even at full bump.

The ol' boy who owned this truck originally did a number on the body...the rear bumper is no exception. Parking by "feel".
The bumper hides the goods out back pretty well. +2 sleeper points.

Ran the battery cable, and tried to follow the fuel return line as much as possible.

Put some techflex braid over the cable in sensitive areas where there's a chance it could rub.

Mounted the battery disconnect right thru the bumper.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Turbo showed up last week...2 weeks after I was told it would.

Happy that I'm able to fit a decent size air filter on without any drama (or more trimming/cutting).

Stuck the fenders and hood on to doublecheck clearances. No issues.

Got some other stuff knocked out. Brakes bled, electric fans wired, filled the rear diff, filled the trans with oil and ran it thru the gears on the lift, etc, etc.

*REALLY* hoping to take it out and blow the tires off of it next week. We'll see.

It's not very fast, but boy it it ever ugly.

Looks great! Do you have more pictures and information on your fuel rails and boost referenced fuel pressure regulator? I'm tring to figure out what I'm going to use on my 6.2L with a TVS1900 Maggie. Also, any thoughts on my cam selection:

They are just FAST rails with 80 lb/hr injectors. -10 feed from tank, split to two -8 lines into the back of the rails, and a single -6 return to the tank.

The regulator is just a normal off the shelf Aeromotive boost referenced regulator with dual -8 inlets and the single -6 out.

As far as the cam, that looks like a nice unit. Lift is pretty high, and will require some really good valve springs. Might also want to double check that you're getting a 1 bolt cam...that one is listed as a 3 bolt, and for use in the earlier LS engines.

Yep. I run it in everything....my duramax, my boat, all the other LS hotrods I've built. I figure if it's good enough for on-highway trucks, it's good for what abuse I put my stuff thru.

Thanks for the fuel system info. I already have old system plumbed very similar to what you have. I just need to upgrade to a boosted EFI regulator.

I deleted the AFM and VVT from the motor, which allowed me to convert to a 3 bolt cam. I also upgraded to a set comp cam dual valve springs as well has some hardened pushrods. I'm also going to do the trunion bearing upgrade on the rockers arms just for the heck of it, . The CompCam guy that recommended the cam, told me I could get by with the stock 6L80E stall converter, thoughts?

I think you'll be alright with teh stock converter. The boost (and torque) off idle will help that out a lot.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Well as they say, the devil is in the details. I have more time in coming up with radiator and heater hoses that will work, than I do in the whole hot-side...

Got the downpipe fabbed up. Turbo outlet is 5", and I reduced to 4" right off the flange. I used a band clamp instead of welding the last piece for several reasons. First off, I'm not sure if I want it to exit there for sure, long-term. Secondly, it may be way too loud and require a muffler. Lastly, if it does require some rework (which i'm sure it will...) it's one less thing to cut apart.

Had to get creative on the lower radiator hose, since the crossover and merge are fighting for real estate with the hose.
I ended up cutting the lower radiator neck back, and re-welding it...reducing it from 1.75" to 1.5", with a tight bend coming out to clear the exhaust. A nice benefit is that both end of the radiator hose are now 1.5" instead of being staggered. I went with the stainless steel flex hose for the bulk of the lower hose, to reduce the chance of damage or melting from heat.

Couldn't really go above the frame, or below the frame with the turbo oil drain...so I went through it with a -12 AN bulkhead fitting.

Heater hoses were a bit of a challenge as well, since the pass right between the downpipe and the manifold. The waterpump outlet is also very tight to the merge, which required molded hoses with 90s on them. I used a reflective heat wrap that is similar to what we use at work on our aftertreatment modules to shield fuel lines and such from excessive heat.

Lastly here's a quick vid showing one of the coolest features of the Megasquirt. Logging and tuning on my phone, via Bluetooth. Took a little vid while I was burping the cooling system.
