Looking for am assist. As per title, wanting to quicken & firm up the power steering on my 72 C10 SWB. It is just being set up as a nice handling regularly driven truck. Will have a 4/6 drop on 19" wheels

What options are there out there?

Have done some web searches, but first hand knowledge is best.

Do you just want to restore original performance or do you want to indulge in a major upgrade, such as installing a rack?

Power Steering Specialties, Springfield, MO. Ask for Chip. He can build 'em any way you want. around 200. Did a great job for me.

A rack is not on the cards, due to the fact here I would have to have truck engineered for that modification, far too much mucking around

Does anyone know how many turns lock to lock the AGR box is?

No Limit makes a bolt in rack kit. Fixes the bump steer issue, and there are less joints to wear out.

Hi roger, in my 68 c10 i installed a factory c10 box from a 1985 chevy. 3 1/2 turns lock to lock and the best part is variable ratio, so this means the box reacts nicer and a little slower in the center area (about 17 to 1 ratio) and then firms up and reacts about 13 to 1 for the rest of the turn. My schooling in the 70's was that the corvettes with a very quick box were twitchy and over-react at high speed so gm designed the variable ratio in about 73-75. This is my favorite box as it's the best of both worlds. Look in the glove box lid as the build sheet will id it as such. If you doubt the feel drive a late model gm truck from about 1975 to 1995 and see what you think. 1996 went to an easy steer with too much assist and doesn't feel right, too light and easy. Newer boxes use different lines so get the junkyard lines and the fitting in the back of the pump also and install and enjoy. Good luck, Brian F.

Well AGR Steering Box is installed, had one 25 mile drive today

The truck did drive very well before, but I'm very pleased after initial drive in improvement. Feels much tighter (old box could have been 40 years old?), no vagueness or wandering in a straight line. Turn in is much sharper. Has helped with turning circle, a good thing. Doesn't feel too heavy.

I would recommend this box.

They can tune the box for steering effort and rebuild with a quicker ratio if desired. I have a high effort quick box in my 71 SWB and it totally changes the feel.

Maybe they don't deal with International buyers?

The AGR box is very good, maybe better than expected.

Not sure about the inspection rules where you are but you may check into the "caster mod". More caster would definitely firm up turning.

The steering with AGR box is now definitely firm. Tracks great.

Next is taller rims with lower profile tires, can feel it roll on tire sidewall now.

Yes, it is just over 3 turns lock to lock, so I would guess about a full turn less than the old stock box.
