Paint Shop...Finally!

Got the big block Lonhorn to Larry's Paint Shop after almost two years! We were cleaning it up a bit today and pulled the rubber mat out of the bed. It must have been there since the truck was new. We were both blown away by the condition of the paint and wood. We even found a GM date stamp on the wood! I have never seen one of these before. Pics are before the bed was cleaned. You gotta love those California trucks...LOL!

Re: Paint Shop...Finally!

Sorry...I got dragged away to dinner. Shifty had it...4/1/68! The truck was a late July build as I recall. It is stamped on the middle board right up near the cab. It looks like a double stamp on the first letter...GM perhaps.

67shortie...It will be Anniversary gold and white...exactly like the original. The outside will be 100 pt. but the front brakes will be upgraded to discs and the engine will be 468 instead of the 396. I have buckets instead of the bench and I may install an aftermarket air in lieu of the original. This will be my weekend driver and will have a period looking camper.

BTW...I have a set of aluminum slots for it.

Re: Paint Shop...Finally!

Thanks for all the encouragement and compliments...and offers to purchase, (72swb)...LOL! I have to mention Larry (orence1) who is donating his shop and is going to shoot the truck. I only do single parts, primer and rat rod paint. I am not ready to tackle a complete "show-quality" metalflake paint job. Larry has that experience so he gets the nod on this one. Great guy and great board member. I get to do all the sanding, grunt work, drag the hose around, chase drinks and pay the bills. We are having fun though!

Re: Paint Shop...Finally!

Going to be nice!!!And,gotta love those 8-lug slots!
All truck floors weren`t stamped. That may have been a top board in a hack shipped from jobber.I`ve had a few woodfloor trucks with original wood in great condition and never have seen that.Makes it all the more unique, that`s for sure.

Re: Paint Shop...Finally!

70c10, I was going to do some exotic african hardwood that is in my shop. Once I saw how nice this wood is...I have changed my mind and will just finish this wood and repaint it. I guess I could use it in my small block Longhorn too which has decent wood but not this nice. It is going to be a full 100 pt. restoration so it could really take advnatage of the unique feature on this set of wood. I could always just switch beds once they are both done.

I'm 7 months younger than those boards, but it looks like they aged better than I did, , , . Great looking truck, can't wait to see it on the road.
