MPG on a Burb - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm thinking of investing in a burb instead of a PU for a daily driver and for a father/sons restoration project. Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of mpg I can get out of burb?
I think I asked this question once before, but not for sure. Thanks

Large range for sure. It would depend on 2wd or 4x4, gearing, tranny, SB or BB, carb/TBI/EFI, tire size, driving style, city or highway, etc....

If all things are equal the truck would get better MPG because its lighter.

I was thinking of getting a burb with a 283 in it, 2WD for better gas milage. I would love a pu, but I wouldn't be able to get all of us in the cab legally. I'm just thinking that a burb would get all of us in it. Even though I own a Ford Xcur., I would love a 67-72 burb as a daily driver. I just don't want poor mpg like I'm getting on my Xcur.

My 70 sub had a 307 which is in my Jimmy now. I get 10 in the Jimmy w/ 350 auto, 4.56 gears and 36x12.50 tires. I'm not sure what the 307 got in the sub, maybe 12-14? My 98 Tahoe gets 14.

I just don't know how I can get 4 kids, my wife (sometimes) and our German Shepherd all in a truck.

Suburban with 292-2bbl/THM-400 getting around 14 mpg. Still some tuning to do and HEI to add - I think 15-16 should be possible. I remember this truck getting in that range when new with the stock 1-bbl.

The burbs are more aerodynamic than trucks...
I limped mine cross country with 8 bent exhaust valves, got 14MPG doing 75 - 80 through indianna, illinois, and ohio... but, I get an honest 10 - 12 in normal 50/50 street/highway driving.

I was getting 10 - 12 mpg in my 69. It had a 350, 4 barrell Edelbrock, TH400 and 3.73 gears (28 inch tires). I am in the process of installing a 5.3/4L60E and I'm hoping to push that to 18-20 mpg. However the addition Magnuson supercharger might prevent me from achieving that goal......

I have a 70 Ambulance that gets 13 w/ 402 and 373's at 70mph or less.

My 72 suburban has a 454 with a 700r4 and i get proably 7-10 mpg depends how i drive it. And with my other 72 suburban is 4 by 4 it has a 350(that needs to be rebuilt.) with turbo 350 and i get about 10-13 mpg

Wow... seriouse typo up[ there. The valves were fine, it was the pushrods that were bent.
That chainges everything.
It ran fine, fired on all 8 all the time, it was just a seriouse dog.
That was with 30 inch tall tires and a 3.54 gear in a dana rear. (it was still a C/20 at that point)

I hope your burb stays a part of your family for a very long time. Having pictures of your kiddo's with it while growing up will be nice.

72 suburban with a 350/700r4 combo and 3.73 gears I am getting 15-16 mpg as a daily driver.I run between 60 and 65 mph.

Very cool picture.

Get your family involved, the MPG difference will be minor between truck/burb/what you have now. What the project will do for your family is irreplacable!

I used to get 6-8 MPG in "White Fang" my '67 K/10 Sub with 454/TH350/NP205 to 33" [33x12.50-R15LTs] at 3.73. But my German Shepherd loved it. It would cruise at 80.
Lining up the project to rebuild that truck. Not sure about what the new powerplant will be with gas prices at current rates...

My 3/4 ton 2wd used to average 12 with stock 402/Th400. Towing my new trailer I drop a bit. . . to 7

, I could seriously watch the gauge drop! But me, my wife, my 4 kids, 3 of their friends, and my 2 dogs, (all in it driving, buckled up) think it is the coolest thing on the street! My wife drives it mostly every day, during the rainy season, (I live in the Pacific NW, thats a lot of driving!) Granted she does not work that far from home.. Anyway, If you like the body style and your family won't fit in a PU or Blazer, the BURBS where its at! I read some where here that some guys with the CADY big blocks in there trucks were getting close to 20!?

I get a little over 13mpg 50/50 city/ hwy, with freeway speed of about 75mph. 6.0L Vortec, 4L80E, 38"x15.50" tires, 5.13 gears.
