Correct... Camaro, Firebird and TA. They are very low profile... especially when compared to the truck oil pan.

Yep, the motor mounts are in a different spot on the ls1 I picked up. I'm going to have to re-figure alot of stuff out, but hey, thats how it goes right?

John, is there any way you could give me a measurment from the bottom of the oil pan to the top of the engine on the vette you are building? I think the corvette intake manifold setup is alot shorter then the truck one.[/QUOTE]


I sure can...but keep in mind the LS7 used a dry-sump lubrication system so the pan is really shallow. I can tell you right now my intake is way shorter.

Also, the adapter motor mounts plates are designed to mount to the SBC stock frame mounts...and place the rear of the LS block in the exact location as of a SBC/BBC. So in other words, the tranny would not move.

These plates came with the engine, but you can easily make them:

It uses an external 8 QUART massive frickin tank. (that I just figured out where to mount it)

Two -12 ports on the bottom pass side of the pan, that'll attach to the tank.

There are also ports on the tank for an oil-cooler hook-up. The engine builder informed me that I wouldn't need to run a cooler, but just might for the cool factor.

Check this out, I was concerned as to how far I could mount the tank. They informed me that they have run 10-15 foot lines from the block to a remote located tank. They told me the oil-pump generates over 120 psi, so this isn't a problem...wow !!

Sorry to jack, just thought it was cool.

I've seen LS1's converted to Dry-sump...they have pans with fittings available.

Not that you would need one, but if you wanted to make the pan super low-profile, you could...mabey lower the engine too.

Just a thought.

I need to lower the engine, thats where I am stuck right now. Oil pan is on the ground, and it's waaay too tall. I talked to Nathan Porter about this, he said a Camaro pan will do wonders for clearance.

Vette pans are even lower profile, but they have the "winglets" that make them hard to put in anything other than a Vette.

I looked on ebay, and found out what they are. It's a "batwing" pan, that is super shallow, and spreads out across the underside of the pan

My pan looks nothing like that...thats for sure, and it's a dry-sump out of a Z06 Vette....

A f-body pan, or a new pan that they call the LH8 pan will help you in ground clearance area. The LH8 pan is hard to get ahold of from what Ive heard tho. Ive got the truck pan, and a f-body pan, just waiting to see which one Ill need.

Finally making some headway, this project has been put on hold due to alot of other things going on in life.
In order to mate tese 2 cabs together easier, I build a large adjustable table, but I haven't had a chance to finish the sliding rails that will hold the cabs. Here are few pictures of the cabs on the rails, and I'm going to build the sliders later this week.

this is my favorite project by far

ive never seen this....a crew cab with an LS7...you got balls man

More progress made today, I finally had a chance to spend all day at my shop, and finished my sliding rail table. I placed both cabs on the sliders, evened them out on their mounts, and slid both together. I finished all of my rough cuts, slid them both together again, and found they fit very well.

After tacking the rockers together, I checked all the body lines. Everything is good, just minor shimming needed to get everything to line up.

DOH! I knew everthing was going way too smooth, so I threw my mock door up, and found I blew my measurement by 1/4". Ill be cutting them back apart again, removing that 1/4 inch, and everthing will be set from here on out! Gap is 3/8 now, need to go down to 1/8 between the two doors.
