Wrecked pride...

Hey guys, bad news!! I was travelling in a construction zone, just where two lanes merged into one, the guy travelling in front of me was cut off, he slammed on his brakes (newer dodge ram), I looked to veer to the ditch - a sign was in the way, looked to veer into the next lane - car in the way.... I locked all four tires up and slid right under him basically. ABS seems to stop way faster than skidding tires do...

Anyway, a picture is worth a thousand words, so: Talk about a heartbreak - this hurt worse than breaking up with my girlfriend of 7 yrs!!

Re: Wrecked pride...

wow, what a bummer! I can only imagine....

What are the plans? Is the truck totaled, or can it be saved...and do you want to bring it back to life?

Most people complain about the hood kinks/bends these trucks seem to get, but it looks like the design worked exactly the way GM intended...the hood buckled, caught the rear pegs, and didn't penetrate into the cab or windshield.

Re: Wrecked pride...

Looks like your frame might actualy be ok. Maybe a bit tweaked but a shop can pull it back as long as its not bent upwards. But maybe a new front clip and paint and still have money leftover from insurance?

What a shame! Looks like it's fixable though... and even the door looks like it didn't kink from being against the fender. I'd make it ride again!

So far insurance is saying its fixable and they'll cover it - as long as the frame is ok. That is good news, HOWEVER, the quote is drastically low for the cost of repairs. The body shop is taking it apart and re-assessing as we speak.

No one was hurt, thank god! The first thing I said when I got out was "is everyone ok?!" upon confirmation, I just sat on the side of the road, speachless.

The front driver side frame horn is bent - the rad support - frame bolt was sheared off and it bent the mounting bracket on the frame. Also, the cab was pushed into the box, there looks to be flex point on the frame under the cab... we will see. Just makes me sick to my stomach to see my truck this way BUT, the nice thing about our trucks is that they are plentiful - rebuilding them is easy!

engine compartment - the fan was pushed through the rad. looks like its just the front clip, and the drivers door hinges that got the brute of the force. There is a fairly large dent in the back of the cab where the box hit it as well. I'm thinking the frame is bent - but it could be fixable. Worst case scenario - I can find a replacement frame. I'll try to make it live again, depending on what insurance says after the smoke clears.

Re: Wrecked pride...

Really sucks, always loved this truck, even when it had the spoiler I believe. Hopefully insurance will cover it and not total it, even then I'd consider "buying" it back from them to work on.

Hope it all works out good for ya. I have been through insurance on a modded vehicle and it wasn't fun.

yes, it did have the roof spoiler lol... I hope the same thing, if they total it, I will buy it back. Theres a lot of good parts on it that can be salvaged if the truck can not be.

Re: Wrecked pride...

That blows man. I had some idiot on a cell phone rear end me in my 76 and believe it or not the value was fairly high on the truck. Seems like once they hit 35 years old the value goes up drasticly, avg. condition for my 76 stepside was over 9 grand. I had to fight with insurance of course but I ended up walking away with 5 grand and a clean title.
