Bagged 1968 Suburban doing some towing

Thought I would post some pics of our 1968 Suburban. We put in Slam SS7 bags front and rear.2.5 drop spindles. In the back we bolted them in place thanks to a great FAQ on how to do it. No notch as I plan on doing alot of towing and I am scared to comprimise the strength. The truck pulled great with the stock 327 and 400 tranny. The 3:73 gear probably had alot to do with it. It rode awesome. The truck even is very good on fuel good even when towing. We have a Ride tech E2 controller to install this week. Look foreward to having controll of the height when cruzing.

On monday We picked up entourageguy's 62 Impala and the week before we got the trailer is not a "airstream" It is a TRAVELUX made in Ontario Canada. I will post pics of the trailer and truck in the next post below.

Looks great! On the rear bags did you use mounting plates or just bolt them to the frame/trailing arm?

I bolted them to the frame right in place of the coil springs.

Was it a PITA drilling the holes in the frame w/the body on?

Re: Bagged 1968 Suburban doing some towing

I had a hard time tracking it down again...... link to bag install.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=129463

I pulled the trailing arms off when I did the work to replace the trailing arm bushings and add the 1.5 block. I set the axel on stands close to the floor. I had the frame up high on axel stands. So there was alot or room to work, I would reccomend wearing good goggles when laying on your back drilling. I was wearing saftey glasses over my perscription glass to protect them but, still ended up at the eye doctor getting steel picked off my eye.

I dont think I said amything about the ride yet, This truck rides way better on air than on the drop coil's.

Re: Bagged 1968 Suburban doing some towing

Thanks for finding that link. Soon as I finish the engine compartment, I'm gonna start installing the 'bags.

That link is how I was planning to install, but it always helps to have some reassurance that you are doing it right. If all goes as planned, I should be tackling the fronts by Tuesday.

Again, I want to let you know your truck looks awesome. Wish the prior owner wouldn't have shot mine with crappy primer. Old patina paint is where it's at!

Sweet burb. My wife is from Missassauga. I used to love going up in the summer always a bunch of cool cars and trucks around. She lived in peterborough for two years while in university. Really nice area.
Keep it up dude.

Re: Bagged 1968 Suburban doing some towing

I love the Airstream. I just bought a camper over the weekend to pull behind my '70. I WANTED an Airstream, but I had to resort to practicality with 3 kids. We needed the slide out for the extra room, and the Airstreams with the slides are BIG bucks.

I am just pumped up to be able to justify taking my Burb to Myrtle Beach in a couple weeks.

Hope to post some pics of my Burb yanking the camper when I pick it up tomorrow.

Awesome Burb!
